Keki's Guinea Pig & Rabbit Rescue

Cookie Policy for Keki’s Guinea Pig Rescue

Effective Date: October 2026

This policy explains how our website www.kekisguineapigrescue.com uses cookies and similar technologies, and the choices you have. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device when you visit. Similar technologies, such as your browser’s local storage, do the same job. They let a site remember things, like what is in your basket, between pages and visits.

What we use

We keep this to the minimum. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not use analytics or tracking tools to follow how you move around the site. The first time you visit, a banner asks whether to allow maps and forms from other sites. Videos are separate: they only play when you press play. Everything else below is needed to make the site work, so it is not switched off by saying no.

  1. Your basket When you add something to your basket in our shop, your browser keeps it in its local storage so it is still there if you move between pages or come back later. Any notes you type for your order are held only until you close the tab. This is needed for the shop to work, and it stays on your device.
  2. Signing in Our volunteers and team sign in to run the website. This sets a login cookie on their device. Visitors who are not signed in do not receive it.
  3. Paying by card Card payments in our shop are handled by Stripe. When you reach the payment step, Stripe may set cookies or similar identifiers to process your payment securely and to prevent fraud. We never see or store your card details. You can read how Stripe uses them in its own privacy policy.
  4. Checking a form is filled in by a person The forms on our own pages use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated programs. It loads a script from Cloudflare when a page with a form opens, runs a short check in your browser, and may set a cookie or similar identifier to do so. Cloudflare controls these and explains them in its own privacy policy. Forms will not send without the check.
  5. Your cookie choice When you answer the banner, we save your answer in a small cookie of our own called keki-consent, for six months, so we do not ask on every page. It is the only thing it holds, and it is needed to remember a “no”.
  6. The map (only if you allow it) The contact page shows a map from Google Maps once you have allowed embedded content, or pressed “Show the map”. Loading it sends your internet address to Google, which runs the map, and Google may set cookies or similar identifiers on your device. Google controls these and explains them in its own privacy policy.
  7. Forms from JotForm (only if you allow them) Some of our forms, such as adoption, boarding and sponsorship, are provided by JotForm and shown inside our pages once you have allowed embedded content, or pressed “Show the form”. JotForm may set its own cookies when a form loads or is submitted. These are controlled by JotForm. If you would rather not allow it, there is a link under each form to open it on JotForm’s own site.
  8. Videos Where we show a video from YouTube or Vimeo, it comes from that service. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, which does not store cookies on your device until you play the video. Playing a video may allow the provider to set cookies, which they control.

Links to other sites

We link to our Facebook and Instagram pages, our Amazon wishlist and PayPal. Those sites have their own cookies, which we do not control. Visiting them is covered by their own policies.

Your choices

You can change your answer to the banner at any time: choose “Cookie settings” in the footer of any page. You can also block or delete cookies, and clear local storage, in your browser’s settings. The site will still work for browsing. If you block them, your basket will not be remembered, and payments or forms from other providers may not work properly. Each browser does this differently, so look in its help pages for how.

Changes to this policy

If we start using other cookies, for example to measure how many people visit the site, we will update this page first and ask for your permission where the law requires it.
